Biography
Jaap Stam exceeded the lofty expectations placed on him after signing for Manchester United in 1998-99. The imposing Dutchman was vital to an epic, but gruelling treble conquest. On the domestic front, they narrowly defeated Arsenal by a single point in the Premier League before claiming the FA Cup. An injury-time turnaround vs. Bayern München in the UEFA Champions League Final sealed their place in footballing history. Stam earned the UEFA Defender of the Year award for his efforts.
